Compress PDF
Compression works by rendering each page and re-encoding it as a JPEG at your chosen quality. That reliably shrinks scans and photo-heavy files, and it will not help a text-only document.

How this tool works
- 1Every page is rendered with PDF.js at a resolution derived from the level you pick.
- 2The rendered page is encoded as a JPEG at the matching quality setting.
- 3A new PDF is assembled from those images at the original page dimensions.
What it will not do
- This converts pages to images. Text in the output is no longer selectable, searchable or accessible to a screen reader.
- A document that is already mostly text will usually get larger, not smaller. The tool tells you when that happens and offers you the original back.
- Vector diagrams lose their crispness at low quality settings.
Where this runs
Compress PDF runs entirely inside this page. Your file is read by the browser, processed in memory and handed back to your downloads folder. It is never sent to a server, because there is no server involved in this tool.

Because rasterising a page of text produces more data than the text itself. If that happens the result is reported honestly and you can keep the original.
